Interior Lighting Design

Interior lighting design is the plan for how every room in your home or business is lit — which fixtures go where, how bright they are, what colour of white they give, and how they are switched and dimmed. Instead of a grid of identical downlights, we build each room from three layers: ambient light that fills the space softly, task light where you actually do things, and accent light that adds depth by washing walls, grazing textures and highlighting art.

What it is

Interior Lighting, in plain language

The result is a room that never feels flat. Turn on only the cove and wall washers in the evening and the same living room feels twice as cosy; bring up the downlights for a family gathering and it feels open and bright.

Where to use it

  • Living and family roomsCove lighting, wall washers and dimmable downlights so the room can be bright for guests or soft for a film.
  • KitchensNeutral-white under-cabinet profiles for clear work surfaces and warm pendants over the island.
  • BedroomsWarm, low-glare light, reading lights at the bed and a dim night path to the bathroom.
  • Dining areasA dimmable pendant over the table with soft ambient light around it.
  • Offices, clinics and showroomsGlare-controlled, high-colour-rendering light that is comfortable for a full working day.

Benefits

Why it is worth it

  • Rooms that change with the time of day

Layers on separate circuits mean you can set a different mood for morning, evening and night.

  • Lower glare, less eye strain

Deep-set and anti-glare optics keep the light on surfaces and out of your eyes.

  • True colours

High-CRI fixtures show skin tones, wood, stone and fabric the way the designer intended.

  • Efficient by design

LED fixtures placed where light is needed use less energy than over-lighting the whole room.

FAQ

Interior Lighting questions

How many downlights does a room need?

It depends on ceiling height, room colour and the other layers you use. A well-designed room usually needs fewer downlights than expected because cove and wall lighting do part of the job. We calculate this per room rather than using a fixed grid.

Should I use warm white or cool white?

For homes we usually recommend 2700K–3000K for living and sleeping spaces and around 4000K for kitchens and work areas. Tunable-white fixtures let you change this later.

Can I dim LED lights?

Yes, as long as the LED driver and the dimmer are compatible. We specify both together so you do not get flicker or buzzing.

Do you handle false-ceiling coordination?

Yes. We share cut-out sizes, cove dimensions and driver access points with your ceiling contractor before work starts.
